We believe that health information is a universal right and that every person is entitled to accurate, accessible and usable medical information.

The Manuals

The Manuals, known as the Merck Manuals in the U.S. and Canada and the MSD Manuals in the rest of the world, are among the most widely used medical information resources.

First published in 1899 as a small reference book for physicians and pharmacists, the Manuals have grown in size and scope to become among the world’s most widely used comprehensive medical resources. Over the years, the Manuals have been translated into 17 languages in print, and a consumer version has been published since 1997.

The 20th edition of the Manual is now available in print. Published in April 2018, this edition boasts 3,584 pages filled with the most up-to-date medical content written by over 350 medical experts. The Manual is one of the most comprehensive medical references and it has been completely revised, redesigned and expanded in this edition.

As the Manuals have evolved, they have continually expanded the reach and depth of offerings to reflect the mission of providing the best medical knowledge of the day to a wide cross-section of users, including medical professionals and students, veterinarians and veterinary students and consumers.

As a sign of our deepened commitment to worldwide medical information access, we have made available for free in digital form in multiple languages to professionals and patients around the world. They also can be found as mobile apps in six languages downloadable through the Google Play and Apple iTunes stores.

SPARTA is a digital health solution developed by our company to support both health care providers (HCPs) and patients in the education and management of medical conditions. The tools and resources provided by SPARTA create an environment for patients to better understand their condition, learn how to manage it in a positive way and realize the importance of medication adherence in attaining their health goals and ultimately improving their quality of life.

SPARTA was created in Australia in 2009, in partnership with physicians and pharmacists who voiced the increasing need for reliable and trusted patient support in chronic disease. In response to this unmet need, a range of modules were created to support and educate enrolled patients in managing their chronic conditions. These modules focused on providing the patient with various touch points such as telephone support; text/email reminders, symptom management tools and disease education. The objective of SPARTA is to help patients understand their condition better, realize the importance lifestyle choices have in managing their condition and improve medication adherence to gain full control over their health journey.

Between 2012 to 2015, SPARTA was launched in multiple markets within the Asia Pacific region reaching 60,000 patients suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes and osteoporosis.

Since 2015, our company’s digital health solution has grown, engaging more than 340,000 patients worldwide across different therapeutic areas including Oncology, Women’s Health, Immunology and Infectious Disease.

In 2020, SPARTA’S objective is to continue to deliver relevant, dependable resources and tools in digitally innovative ways, ensuring the continued education and support of patients and HCPs worldwide.
